How To Pick Your Mother Son Song

Hello my future bride and grooms! How is the planning going?? Stressful? Is the list piling up? If not, good for you… give me some of whatever you’re having! But for real, I know wedding planning can be stressful and jam packed with a million different things, so I am here to help with taking just one thing off that list of yours! So, with that said… a Mother and Son dance song playlist is here for you! WOO!

Sometimes thinking of songs when you NEED to think of songs is hard, my mind will go blank when I need to think of a song I love even though I have a handful I always think of for certain occasions.

If you’re also wanting a father/daughter dance playlist or a first dance playlist, you can look back on my blog for those are already here for you as well. But today let’s talk about some Mother/Son ideas.

This one is hard, I know. You want something meaningful, but also something (easy?) to dance to if you aren’t super confident on your feet. If you are really confident in those dance skills, good for you! Can’t wait to see. I love me some choreographed dances! But, I know those nerves kick in and you also want it to be a special moment. So, sometimes having a bit of an easier beat to follow helps out for those not wanting anything choreographed or too difficult. Options for everyone!

Now, picking a song is not easy. There are SO many AGHHH! How do you choose just one?? I don’t know y’all. That part is not fun for me either. I like too many!

Now, Groom, I’m talking to you… think of things you and your mom have done together. Fun trips, nice long weekends, sporting events, shows, movies, anything at all. Maybe there’s something there that sparks an idea! Have you been to any concerts together? Talked about favorite bands? Is there a song or a band you both love or both listen to together? Think back to these times and see if an idea comes to mind! Find something that brings you both joy and holds meaning to you.

This is a really special time for your mom. She will cherish this moment forever. Seriously. But don’t let that put any more pressure on you! I don’t mean it like that, I promise!! I just mean, she will hold it close to her heart, and so will you, so I want to help you make it great for the both of you.

Some things to think about and talk with your mom about before you both pick a song. Is she wanting something upbeat? Slow? How long does she want it to be? It’s good to think about those things because the song may not feel long until you’re in front of hundreds of people, so make sure you like the time length.

Now, if you’re still unsure of what to use, if you both can’t decide on anything or still need a little guidance, I made a playlist you can peruse and listen to! Maybe something here will spark more ideas or maybe you’ll like one from the playlist. Use this as a guide, or as your song! It’s here to help you in any way it can.

In my playlist, I have a variety of genres, new, old, fast, slow… anything and everything I could think of! I threw in some classics like “Wild Montana Skies” by John Denver and Emmylou Harris, “In My Life” by the Beatles, “Child of Mine” by Carole King or Fleetwood Mac, “Just the Way You Are” by Billy Joel, “Songbird” by Fleetwood Mac, “Always On My Mind” by Willie Nelson, and many more like those!

I also threw in some newer artists like a cover of “How Long Will I Love You” sung by Ellie Goulding, “Forever Young” sung by Rhiannon Giddens (Parenthood fans?? I am and I loveee this song), “Wildflowers” sung by Miley Cyrus, “Guiding Light” by Mumford and Sons, and again, many many more!

You can always cut it, fade it out or make it shorter if you choose a song that is a little too long for you to dance to! Take a listen with your mom, and see if anything sticks out to you and sparks some memories together.

I hope this helps you with picking a song, and I hope you can make one more check on that checklist of yours! You’re doing great, and I wish you all the best! If any of you that have been through this, and have more ideas or songs in mind you like/have used, leave it in the comments and help others out! Happy listening! 🙂
